Carthage school board, council candidates on ballots By Susan Redden sredden@joplinglobe.com CARTHAGE, Mo. — Residents of the Carthage R-9 School District will decide three positions on the board in Tuesday’s school and city elections. And Carthage residents will fill five seats on the City Council, though only two of the posts are being contested. Five residents are seeking positions on the Carthage School Board. The candidates are Tony Diggs, Jeff Jones and Danny Lambeth, all incumbents, and Kent Hogan and Alan Snow. Diggs, 47, 2327 Alison St., has lived in the district for nearly 40 years. He is managing engineer at Lozier Corp. in Joplin and hold’s an associates degree in science from Missouri Southern State University. Jones, 41, 9935 County Lane 185, has lived in the district for about 40 years. He is vice president of operations with Cars on the Move, Carthage. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management technology from MSSU and an associate’s degree, also from MSSU, in computer aided drafting. Lambeth, 47, 1308 Ashley St., has lived in the district for about 35 years and is executive vice-president of H.E. Williams in Carthage. Also seeking board posts are Kent Hogan and Alan Snow. Hogan, 50, 1673 E. 13th St., is the pastor of the Bible Baptist Church in Carthage. He has lived in Carthage for eight years. This is his third run for a school board post. He graduated with a theology degree from Baptist Bible College in Springfield. Snow, 43, 1110 Euclid Blvd., works for Leggett & Platt and has lived in the district for five years. This is his first run for local office. He graduated from high school in Girard, Kan., and holds a bachelor’s degree in technology from Pittsburg State University. There are races for Carthage City Council members from the 2nd and 3rd Wards, while remaining candidates are running without opposition. Candidates for the 2nd Ward post are Ronnie E. Wells and Timothy Teed. Wells, 307 N. Garrison, served on the council earlier for three terms, but did not seek re-election a year ago. He works at Lowe’s in Carthage. He is a lifelong Carthage resident, graduated from Carthage High School and holds an associate’s degree from Crowder College, Neosho.
