A group of voters surveyed in Pittsburg said they voted against a $6.1 million school construction bond.
“We felt all-day kindergarten is unnecessary, it’s too much for those kids,” said Larry Fite, who along with his wife Beverly voted against the measure on Tuesday. “And it’s more taxation for us, the elderly. The seniors on fixed-income have it tough.” The bond was requested to pay for the addition of 25 classrooms to USD 250’s four elementary schools. Superintendent Gary Price said the classrooms would be used to provide all-day kindergarten.
A school bond issue requires a simple majority to pass in Kansas.
