Linda Williams, Jasper County circuit clerk, steps down

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Linda Williams, long-time Jasper County circuit clerk, has stepped down effective immediately.

Williams announced the decision in an email to court officials late Wednesday.

David Dally, presiding judge of the Jasper County Circuit Clerk, said plans are underway to name an interim clerk to oversee the office.

“It’s my understanding that the court en banc will name an interim, then a replacement will be appointed by the governor,” he said.

Dally said he plans to meet with other judges in the circuit on Monday afternoon. In the interim, he said he expects the court system to operate “as usual.”

“Everyone is at work,” he said.

Williams was elected to her fourth four-year term as circuit clerk in 2010. Attempts to reach Williams for comment have been unsuccessful.
