Dorothy Frederick

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Dorothy Frederick, 89, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, in Overland Park, Kansas.  

Dorothy was born on Oct. 19th, 1924, in Keokuk, Iowa. She was a longtime resident of Carthage from 1945 until moving to Overland Park in 2010. Dorothy was a homemaker, but also worked for Dr. Whitten in Carthage for several years. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carthage where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Alberta Tarr Circle. She was also participated in the Surviving Spouses group, sponsored by Ulmer Funeral Home. Additionally, Dorothy was a Cub Scout Den leader for the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered at St. Luke's Nursing Home, playing the organ for residents.

Dorothy married William "Bill" Frederick on Aug. 13, 1945, in Waco, Texas. He preceded her in death in June of 1991.    

Survivors include two sons, Tom Frederick and wife, Kathy, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Rob Frederick and wife, Cheryl, of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Elliott Frederick, Cory Frederick and wife, Becky of Kansas City, Missouri, Joshua Wynia and wife Julie, of Lake Forest, California; Chad Wynia and wife, Amber of Lee's Summit; seven great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cheryl Frederick Kardell on Oct. 10, 1997; two brothers; and one sister.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 19th at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 18th. Burial will be at Park Cemetery, in Carthage.

Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association care of Ulmer Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ulmer Funeral Home.
