Shot fired at Memorial Middle School
A Joplin student is in custody at Memorial Middle School after one shot was
fired Monday morning at the school, Joplin police Lt. Geoff Jones said. No
injuries were reported.
Joplin R-8 Superintendent Jim Simpson said the police responded quickly and
that the plan the school district has in place for such incidents worked
effectively.
"It was a very close call," Simpson said.
Parents are at the school now picking up students. The area is secure, and a
press confererence is scheduled to start at 8:35.
