UPDATE: Streets closed due to train derailment

JOPLIN, Mo. — A rail line near Fifth Street and Murphy Boulevard has broken, derailing several train cars.

The Joplin Police Department has closed Murphy Boulevard between Fourth and Seventh streets as crews from the Kansas City Southern Railroad work at the site.

Cpl. Dan Haskins said three to four cars of a train were thrown off the track because of a break in the line.

Murphy Boulevard will be closed until 5 p.m. today as well as Minnesota Avenue from Seventh Street to Murphy Boulevard while repairs are made.
