Schedule gives Lions good chance for fast start

As you may have read, Missouri Southern finalized and released its 2012 football schedule on Monday.

Pretty standard stuff.

But things seem to break well for the Lions early in the debut season of the revamped MIAA.

Southern opens with two league newcomers, Central Oklahoma on the road and Northeastern State at home. Neither is a pushover, but neither is a power.

The Lions then play MIAA cellar-dwellars Lincoln and Southwest Baptist before they face their first legitimate MIAA contender in Central Missouri.

The Lions seem to be completely on-board with new coach Daryl Daye. Linebacker Alex Wong told me last month that the team is "stoked" and that Daye is "the real deal."

Combine that with a weak early schedule and Southern could get off to a nice start this fall.
