KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Well, the MLB Home Run Derby has concluded and Detroit's Prince Fielder has won his second Derby in the state of Missouri (he won in St. Louis in 2009), but that's not what everyone is talking about here.
Nope. The real story of the night was the reception received by the Yankees' Robinson Cano.
The New York star and reigning Derby champ told ESPN last month that he would select a Royals player to participate in the Derby. And when KC slugger Billy Butler was selected for the All-Star Game, long-suffering Royals fans were excited to watch him swing for the fences on national television.
Only Cano didn't select Butler.
That caused a minor outrage in KC -- already a town not fond of the Yankees -- and got the twitter hashtag #booCano going.
And, boy did the Royals house boo. They booed Cano mercilessly. Enough that they seemingly got in his head and helped him go 0-for-10, the worst outing possible in a Home Run Derby.
Here is the last final minutes of Cano's outing. The crowd cheered Butler any time he was on the video board, chanted his name anc cheered loudly for Cano's outs.
