— Pittsburg State made a few announcements regarding the 2012 football season on Tuesday, most notably that it will replace the turf at Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium.
The school installed FieldTurf 10 years ago -- prior to the 2002 season -- but has decided to switch to a new company, choosing Mondoturf from Kiefer Specialty flooring. (read the press release here)
That's the good news. The FieldTurf, which was some of the earliest installed in the area, had faded and developed unsightly black spots thanks to the recycled-tire infill.
The head-scratching news, at least in my opinion? The school has decided (at least according to the artists' rendering) to switch to a black end zone. Black, a color found nowhere in the world of Pittsburg State.
Nonetheless, these are exciting times for the Gorillas, fresh off the 2011 NCAA DII national title. John Lance arena is also getting a spiffy new look, which will eventually include an indoor football practice facility and track.
Pitt State also announced that non-season ticket prices will increase. Hey, ya gotta pay up to see the champs.
It's all detailed in the video below.
