PITTSBURG, Kan. — Pitt State head coach Tim Beck talked briefly Wednesday morning on some of the Gorillas' 40 high school signings.
Here is the complete list from Pitt State.
On the quarterback position, where the Gorillas landed Beggs (Okla.) three-star dual-threat prospect Ramsey Hamilton and 6-foot-5 Rose Hill (Kan.) star Derrick Decker, in addition to Sand Springs (Okla.) three-star prospect Darrack Harger, who graduated in December and is already enrolled at Pitt:
"We needed some help at quarterback. Other than (Anthony) Abenoja, we didn't have a lot of people there. We really feel like we can develop all three of these guys ... having Harger here at semester is a huge thing for us."
The Gorillas landed a pair of impressive prep running backs in Hutchinson (Kan.) bruiser Ja'Mon Cotton and Putnam City (Okla.) North's Dre Holman, who had a scholarship offer from Wyoming:
"Those two really stand out at the running back position. Dre Holman is a really good running back. Cotton, he rushed for 2,000 yards in Hutchinson's offense. He's basically a fullback, a straight-ahead runner who showed some unbelievable versatility. He can be a power back and a speed back."
Beck was also excited about the signing of Neosho's Gavin Rainwater, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive lineman from nearby Neosho High School:
"He has the chance to be a really good player for us, he's extremely strong and he'sl mobile for a big guy. We had a huge hole to fill there with J.R. Jones and Cody Moore being gone. We're really excited about him."
