JOPLIN, Mo. — If I had to buy a ticket for one prep football game in the area tonight, it's safe to say I'd be headed to Webb City for the Cardinals' unbeaten clash with the Ozark Tigers.
Webb City (No. 1 in Class 4 and riding winning streaks of 37 overall and 88 regular-season) will likely get its toughest test of the season thus far from the Tigers (No. 7 in Class 5.)
Ozark is averaging 51 points and 404 rushing yards per game. These Tigers are for real.
But still. I can't pick against Webb City until the Cards give me a reason. Everyone thought big, bad Har-Ber was going to put Webb City in its place back in Week 2. We remember how that came out.
I'll be leaving shortly for the drive to Camdenton to see if Joplin can bounce back from last week's heartbreaking loss to Lebanon.
This is a big one for the Eagles. If they win their final two games, they still have a shot at hosting a first-round district game.
Joplin has taken good strides in year No. 2 under Chris Shields. These next two games could go a long way in their journey back to the top of the Ozark Conference.
