Authorities investigate drowning

Officials with the Newton County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the drowning death of a 6-year-old boy Tuesday at the Swimmin’ Hole water park at 2532 Jaguar Road south of Joplin.

Authorities identified the victim as Ethan Cory of Joplin.

The call came at 12:49 p.m.

“The body was found under a slide in about four feet of water,” said Chief Deputy Chris Jennings.

The boy was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
