The Newton County sheriff fears foul play is involved in the disappearance of a 9-year-old girl from her home in Stella.
The girl, Rowan Ford, went to sleep at her residence at 777 Grove St. in Stella on Friday night and was discovered missing the next morning, Sheriff Ken Copeland said. But her disappearance was not reported to the Newton County Sheriff’s Department until 6:50 p.m. Saturday after her mother and stepfather spent the day looking for her at friends’ houses, he said.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter conducted an aerial search of some woods near her home on Sunday, even as law officers and volunteers were combing wooded areas on foot, horseback and all-terrain vehicles. The girl had not been found by Sunday night, the sheriff said.
She is described as having brown hair and brown eyes, just under four feet tall and weighs 62 pounds. She is the daughter of Colleen Spears and stepdaughter of David Spears and is a fourth-grade student at Stella Elementary School.
