Here’s a quick breakdown of what area candidates reported to the Missouri Ethics Commission eight days before the election. As you can see from donations they made, when they don’t have competition, they love to help each other out.
Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar, has raised $16,225.73 and spent $15,796.81. He has a war chest of $4,917.83.
His largest donations include $2,500 from AT&T;, $3,500 from Ameren UE, and $1,000 from Missouri Cable.
His expenses include donations of $11,000 to the House Republican Central Committee and $1,000 to the gubernatorial campaign of U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof.
n Emery’s competitor, Linda Marie Crane, D-Greenfield, raised $630 and spent $1,388.30. She has a war chest of $386.99.
Her report includes donations of $100 each from attorney Michael D. Holzknecht, of Stockton, Lamar Democrat owner Doug Davis, of Lamar, and Bill and Carolyn Head, of Greenfield.
Her expenses for advertisements include $649 to Lakes Radio KRWP, $374 to the Carthage Press and $143 to the Lamar Democrat.
Tom Flanigan, R-Carthage, the only candidate running to succeed Rep. Steve Hunter, raised $1,650 and spent $7,595.43. He has a war chest of $3,908.99.
He reported donations of $400 each from BNSF Railway, of Fort Worth, Texas, and the 126th District Legislative Committee, of Liberal.
He donated $2,045.43 to the 127th District Committee, of Jasper, and $500 each to 11 different candidates, including Hulshof, Scott Largent, of Clinton, Don Ruzicka, of Mount Vernon, and Eric Burlison, of Springfield.
Speaker-elect Ron Richard, R-Joplin, has raised $83,700 and spent $81,335.71. He has a war chest of $36,173.30.
His report includes donations of $13,000 from the Southwest Missouri Leadership Committee, of Joplin, $7,500 from Ameren UE, and $5,000 each from Express Scripts, Kansas City Power and Light and AT&T.; He donated $49,000 to the House Republican Campaign Committee, $5,000 to U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt and $2,000 to the Dade County Republican Committee, of Greenfield.
Rep. Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin, raised $13,052.50 and spent $3,061.88. She has a war chest of $93,146.51.
She reported donations of $1,500 each from Rudolph Farber, of Neosho, and Jerry Wells, of Joplin, $1,225 from the 126th District committee and $1,150 from Midwest Mining Inc., of Ozark.
She donated $200 to Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland and $100 each to five candidates, including Gloria Gourley, Gina Rodriquez and Jack Sanders, all of Neosho.
Rep. Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City, has raised $7,869.73 and spent $4,566.34. He has a war chest of $4,764.67.
He reported donations of $1,500 from BNSF Railway and $1,000 from Union Pacific.
His donations include $2,000 to Brad Lager, of Savannah, who is running for treasurer.
Rep. Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho, has raised $2,600 and spent $15,320.44.
He has a war chest of $11,783.80.
He reported donations of $500 from United Health Care, BNSF Railway and American Family Insurance.
His donations include $5,000 to the House Republican Central Committee and $1,000 each to Hulshof, the McDonald County Republican Central Committee, Newton County. GOP committee, and Ed Robb, of Columbia.
Sen. Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, raised $19,055 and spent $28,597.87.
He has a war chest of $87,761.22.
He reported donations of $2,000 from Union Pacific, $1,200 from Southern Missouri Natural Gas, and $1,000 from the National Rifle Association.
He gave $11,500 to Schmitt for Senate, $8,500 to Lembke for Senate and $3,500 to Rep. Roy Blunt.
Sen. Gary Nodler is not up for re-election, and was not required to file a report.

Missouri voters endorse state Proposition C
Missouri voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected a key provision of President Barack Obama’s health care law, sending a clear message of discontent to Washington and Democrats less than 100 days before the midterm elections. With about 70 percent of the vote counted late Tuesday, nearly three-quarters of voters had supported the measure.

Pittsburg voters reject sales tax increase
A proposed quarter-cent city sales tax increase in Pittsburg for street repairs was defeated Tuesday by voters, 1,243 to 1,031. The margin was 55 percent “no” votes to 45 percent “yes” votes. The totals are based on complete, but unofficial, returns from the Crawford County clerk’s office.

Ruestman receives GOP nod; Krueger prevails in circuit clerk bid
Republicans in Newton County on Tuesday overwhelmingly selected a state lawmaker to be their nominee for presiding county commissioner, according to complete but unofficial returns. Current state Rep. Marilyn Ruestman, of Joplin, with a total of 6,125 votes, led a field of four GOP hopefuls.

An intense and costly battle for the Republican nomination for Missouri’s 129th District House seat concluded Tuesday with a lopsided victory for William “Bill” White, who is seeking to fill the seat being vacated by Ron Richard.

Former legislator leads race for Senate seat
A former legislator and sheriff from the Bolivar area had a wide lead for the Republican nomination for the Missouri Senate District 28 seat, according to incomplete returns Tuesday night. Mike Parson, 54, of Bolivar, the former state representative in House District 133, was the leader with 12,723 votes.

Long, Eckersley win nods in 7th district
Billy Long, a Springfield auctioneer, real estate salesman and former radio talk show host, won the Republican nomination for Congress from Missouri’s 7th District on Tuesday, while the Democratic nod went to Scott Eckersley, an attorney from Kimberling City who at one time worked for former GOP Gov. Matt Blunt.
