First time poll worker Della Fraizer said she is excited to help out at the polls during today’s election.

“It sounded like something a good citizen would do,” the retired Joplin resident said as she handed out red, white and blue stickers to voters at Villa Heights Baptist Church, 2650 East Seventh Street, Joplin.

Fraizer said that she answered a newspaper ad seeking workers to greet voters and help check registrations at area polling places. “My responsibilities are not that great, but its been fun so far, ” she said.

As of 7:32 a.m., 184 voters had cast their ballots at Villa Heights.

Fraizer said that residents anxious to cast their ballots were already lined up when she arrived at the church.

“I arrived just before 5 a.m. and there were two people waiting to get in to vote.” Since then Fraizer said that traffic has been steady, and at one point the line extended out the door of the church.

Fraizer said she believes it’s her civic duty to lend a hand.

“I’m retired and have the time to do it,” she explained, “but you need to give something back to the country anytime you can.”
