Published April 23, 2008 12:02 am -  Sarcoxie man obtains suspended sentence in caseA Sarcoxie man was assessed a suspended sentence in an assault case in Jasper County Circuit Court. A robbery charge against Kory Comer was dismissed by the county prosecutor’s office. Comer, 27, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor assault in a plea agreement dropping a related charge of second-degree robbery. Comer initially was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree robbery in connection with an attack on Sam Endicott on July 2 of last year at Comer’s home in Sarcoxie. Court records state that Comer’s wife called Endicott and asked him to come to their home, where Comer jumped him, hitting him in the face and causing facial cuts, a swollen retina, and broken bones and teeth. Endicott also maintained that he was robbed by Comer, according to a probable-cause affidavit. The prosecutor’s office agreed to reduce the assault charge to a misdemeanor and dismiss the robbery charge in exchange for a guilty plea. Circuit Judge Gayle Crane accepted the plea agreement Monday. She sentenced Comer to a year in jail, then suspended the sentence and placed him on probation for one year. The judge also fined him $250 and ordered that he complete 25 hours of community service.
