A Carthage man was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison for forcing sexual acts on a 13-year-old girl.
Glenn E. Ewing, 35, pleaded guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin to first-degree statutory rape and first-degree statutory sodomy in a plea agreement with the county prosecutor’s office. The agreement limited the prison time Ewing might be assessed on each count to 10 years and allowed whatever sentences he received to run concurrently.
The defendant was facing from 10 to 30 years, or up to life, in prison on each count if he were convicted by a jury.
Ewing also waived his right to a sentencing-assessment report at Monday’s hearing, allowing Circuit Judge David Dally to accept the plea agreement and pronounce sentence. The judge assessed the defendant 10 years on each count and ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
A probable-cause affidavit signed by an investigator states that Ewing had sexual intercourse with the girl Aug. 8 and that he had committed the same act with her numerous times over the past few years. The affidavit states that he also forced oral sex acts on her.
Investigation
Glenn E. Ewing was arrested in August of last year after an investigation by the Carthage Police Department.
