CARTHAGE, Mo. — The arrests of two Carthage men in a vehicle stopped Thursday by a Jasper County sheriff’s detective has helped authorities solve a number of recent burglaries in two counties.
The Sheriff’s Department said Calvin F. Wallace Jr., 23, and Julio E. Mojica, 25, were stopped in a pickup truck that was believed to be linked to some burglaries in the area.
Searches of the truck and the two men’s homes allegedly turned up property reported stolen in six burglaries in Jasper County and two more in Newton County. The Sheriff’s Department said investigators were still working Friday to tie other property found to reported burglaries.
The two men remained in custody Friday at the Jasper County Jail in Carthage, each charged with a single count of burglary. Their bonds were set at $25,000 each.
The Sheriff’s Department said other charges may be brought as the investigation progresses. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Carthage police assisted sheriff’s deputies in the arrest and investigation.
