Bondswoman charged with false imprisonment

CARTHAGE, Mo. — A bail bondswoman from Carthage is facing a charge of false imprisonment for allegedly attempting to put a man in jail without a judge’s order, then taking him home and handcuffing him to the banister of a staircase until a friend of the man paid her his bond money.

Jean M. Chartier, 57, of Adams Bail Bonds, was arrested Saturday and charged with misdemeanor false imprisonment of Reynaldo Delarosa.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department said Chartier detained Delarosa, 32, of Joplin, on Thursday of last week, informing him that she was revoking his bond in a misdemeanor case of drug possession. She took him to the Jasper County Jail for incarceration but was refused when she could not produce any judge’s order to revoke his bond.

Chartier subsequently took Delarosa home and handcuffed him to a bannister until the following day when he was able to call a friend and get him to bring Chartier bond money, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
