CARTHAGE, Mo. — Some overloaded extension cords are the suspected cause of a fire Sunday night that damaged a Carthage home.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which was reported at 5:23 p.m. fire on West Budlong Street, according to the Carthage Fire Department.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the eaves of the two-story house when they arrived, said fire Capt. Paul McCoy. He said the fire spread to the second floor from the basement, where some overloaded extension cords were located.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and limited its impact to a moderate amount of fire damage and minor smoke damage. McCoy said the occupants of the house were not home at the time.
