CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri has received a check for $100,000 in the form of a memorial gift established by the estate of Everett Halliburton “Hal” Hough, a longtime Carthage resident who died in 2005.
Mark Eliff and family members presented the check to the foundation Monday.
Michelle Ducre, head of the foundation, said: “We’re just really excited. It’s like getting an early Christmas present for the community of Carthage. What the Hough family has done is to provide a fund that goes on forever that’ll provide projects that better the Carthage community.”
Ducre said the gift will be used for the betterment of Carthage and that special attention will be given to McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital. Hough, whose wife, Annetta, died earlier this year, had ties to the hospital, she said.
Interest from the gift will go toward Carthage projects. Ducre said the foundation will probably issue a request for proposals next spring when grants are made by the foundation.
Ducre said the philanthropic gift is one of the many ways that people can give back to the community to support future needs and projects.
The office of the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri is at 221 W. Fourth St. in Carthage.
Estate gift
Hal Hough, a Carthage native, served as a program executive and vice president of programs for the division of CBS affiliates in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and St. Louis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Signal Corps.
