Two brothers waived their rights to preliminary hearings Wednesday in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin on charges that they assaulted a man last summer at their home near Carthage.

Arnie L. Torrence II, 20, and Anthony J. Torrence, 18, were ordered bound over for trial on charges of second-degree assault. Associate Circuit Judge Richard Copeland set Jan. 15 for Arnie Torrence’s initial appearance in a trial division of the court and Jan. 25 for his brother’s initial appearance.

The brothers are accused of assaulting Ronnie Graves on July 30 outside their home at 5020 Quest Lane. A probable-cause affidavit alleges that Arnie Torrence struck Graves first, knocking him to the ground, and when the victim got back up, Anthony Torrence hit him.

Graves suffered a fractured jaw requiring surgery, according to the affidavit.
