Mass. couple plans ZIP code wedding

Amesbury couple fascinated by numbers

AMESBURY, Mass. — Wednesday is a special day here that won’t come again for another century, and a local couple is commemorating it by getting married at the gazebo in the center of town.

Why is it so special? Jan. 9, 2013, is also the town’s ZIP code: 01913.

Cheryl Bennett and her fiancé, Steven DeLong, longtime residents of Amesbury, realized that recently and felt it was the perfect day to wed after five years of going together.

“What better place and time to do it,” said Bennett. “People just pick dates all the time, so to have a date with such significance is really special.”

DeLong, 45, a mechanic, and Bennett, 31, a medical receptionist, will hold a short ceremony with their children from previous marriages. They said it would be simple, personal and quick so Bennett doesn’t catch a cold in her wedding dress.

Bennett said the ZIP code wedding idea was hers, and fit with her fascination for numbers. For instance, she said she knew that DeLong was the one after she learned his birthday was Nov. 22, one of her favorite double digits.

“It’s not the way I planned for life to turn out but that’s the way it did, and it’s good,” said Bennett. “Nothing was rushed, and the (wedding) date means so much because everything finally fell into place.”

Although neither is sure what the future holds for their blended family, one thing is almost certain: both will always likely remember their anniversary date.
