Money dispute leads to fight; man in hospital

NEOSHO, Mo. — An argument over money led to an assault Monday night near downtown Neosho that sent one man to a hospital and the other to jail, according to police.

Neosho police Chief David McCracken said officers responded to a disturbance about 10:30 p.m. in the 700 block of McCord Street. One of the combatants was unconscious, and the other had fled the area, he said.

Jordan McGee, 24, of Neosho, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, where he was reported to be in stable condition Tuesday morning, the police chief said.

His alleged assailant, Joshua J. Ryan, 24, of Neosho, was arrested about 11 a.m. Tuesday. He is charged with first-degree assault.

A probable-cause affidavit states that Ryan punched McGee in the face to the point that he fell to the ground. Ryan continued punching McGee while he was lying on the ground, unconscious and unable to defend himself, until two witnesses screamed and pleaded with Ryan to stop, the affidavit alleges. He got into a vehicle and left before police arrived.
