Pineville man dies in accident on Highway 71



A Pineville man was killed in a single-vehicle accident at 9:20 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 71 in Anderson in McDonald County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Troy A. Coffee, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:05 a.m. Saturday by Don Rudy, McDonald County deputy coroner, the patrol said.

The patrol said the southbound vehicle ran off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and overturned, throwing Coffee out.

n An Everton resident was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 12:13 p.m. Saturday on state Highway 59 in Jasper County, three miles south of Carthage, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Lesia M. Wagner, 39, was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin with moderate injuries, the patrol said. Wagner was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Carl D. Wagner, 36, also of Everton, who was not injured, the patrol said.

The other driver, Robert D. Pittman, 64, of Carthage, was not injured, the patrol said.

The patrol said the westbound Pittman vehicle was attempting to turn left when it turned into the path of the southbound Wagner vehicle.

n A Galena, Kan., woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 12:10 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 44 in Newton County near Joplin city limits, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Kelsey N. Stidham, 20, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin with minor injuries, the patrol said.

The other driver, John M. Kessel, 41, of Quapaw, Okla., was not injured, the patrol said.

The patrol said the westbound Stidham vehicle was attempting to pass another vehicle when it struck Kessel’s vehicle, which also was westbound.

n A Humboldt, Kan., man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 11:38 p.m. Friday on Highway 3 in Crawford County, just north of Brazilton, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.

Mitchell Dewey, 22, was taken by ambulance to Girard Medical Center with minor injuries, the department said.

The department said the vehicle was southbound when Dewey blacked out. He told sheriff’s deputies that when he awoke, his vehicle was in the ditch.

n A Noel woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 5:20 p.m. Friday on Route EE in McDonald County, three miles west of Pineville, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Amber M. Washam, 18, was taken to Freeman Neosho Hospital, the patrol said.

The patrol said the westbound vehicle ran off the road and struck a ditch.

n A Carthage woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 4:55 p.m. Friday on Interstate 44 in Lawrence County, half of a mile west of Mount Vernon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Cleta M. McNary, 51, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin with serious injuries, the patrol said.

The patrol said the westbound vehicle overturned in the median.
