Lamar man dies in traffic accident in Barton County

A Lamar man was killed in a two-vehicle accident at 11:47 a.m. Friday on Route U, eight miles southeast of Lamar in Barton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Dale Shepley, 88, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the county coroner, the state patrol said. His body was taken to the Daniels Funeral Home in Lamar.

Shepley was driving a car southbound on Southeast 80th Lane and failed to yield to an eastbound pickup truck driven by Clinton J. Augusta, 37, of Sheldon, and pulled into Augusta’s path on Route U, the patrol said.

• A 22-year-old man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 2:36 p.m. Thursday on Michigan Avenue near Jasper Street, according to a Joplin Police Department report.

Marcus L. Johnson, of Joplin, was taken to Freeman Hospital West, the police report said.

Johnson was driving a southbound vehicle that skidded off the street and struck a fire hydrant and a utility pole when he tried to avoid a vehicle in front of him, the report said.
