Man ordered to serve term in state prison

A Jasper County judge assessed a 39-year-old rural Joplin man four years in prison this week for possession of methamphetamine.

Circuit Judge David Dally sentenced Dale J. Spradlin to the term at a hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court. Spradlin pleaded guilty Dec. 30 in a plea agreement dismissing related counts of manufacturing methamphetamine and unlawful use of a weapon, and a previous charge of possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture the drug.

The three related counts stemmed from an arrest April 9 of last year by a Jasper County sheriff’s deputy who contacted Spradlin and two other men and a woman at 522 E. Fountain Road. Spradlin allegedly tried to discard some gloves as the deputy approached. The gloves contained various items associated with the manufacture and use of meth, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

The affidavit states that a meth lab had been discovered the previous night in a tent in some woods at that location. A witness told deputies that Spradlin and a woman emerged from the woods together, and that Spradlin came toward him with a knife and told him to leave the area.

The third dismissed count pertained to an arrest in December 2012.
