Fire destroys machine shop near Carthage

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Fire destroyed a machine shop Wednesday morning on a rural property eight miles northeast of Carthage.

The Carthage Fire Department responded at 1:31 a.m. to a report of a fire on Kafir Road. Fire Chief Chris Thompson said the metal building about 100 feet long was in flames when firefighters arrived.

Thompson said the property owner was able to get his tractors and some equipment stored in the building out, but other contents were destroyed. No injuries were reported, according to the fire chief. The cause of the fire remained undetermined late in the day.
