Fire at Nevada forces occupants out of apartment

NEVADA, Mo. — An apartment fire Thursday afternoon in Nevada forced two occupants to seek other shelter, according to the Nevada Fire Department.

The 3:30 p.m. fire caused $6,500 worth of damage to the apartment of Richard O’Neil on West Cherry Street before city firefighters were able to get it put out. No injuries were reported, according to a city fire report.

The report said the cause of the fire was believed to be a portable heater and blower that were being used on some frozen pipes.
