Joplin police seek 2 in connection with shooting death

JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin police on Sunday night were looking for two men in connection with a shooting late Saturday night that left a Joplin man dead, according to police Lt. Darren Gallup.

Gallup declined to release the names of the individuals being sought, citing the investigation into the shooting.

The victim, Charles A. Tumbleson, 26, was shot about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot outside Jukebox Saturday Night, a nightclub at 3405 S. Range Line Road, police said. He was later pronounced dead at Freeman Hospital West from a gunshot wound, according to a release from the Police Department.

Gallup declined to release information about how or where the victim had been shot pending an autopsy, which has been scheduled for 9 a.m. today in Springfield.

He also said Sunday night that he had no information on a possible motive for the shooting.

“We’re still trying to figure that out ourselves,” he said.

Police on Sunday morning had said they were looking for a man described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. A number of tips called in to the Police Department later on Sunday led officers to identify the two men being sought that night, Gallup said.

He said anyone with additional information is being asked to call the department at 623-3131, ext. 442.

Police have been assisted in the investigation by the Tri-State Major Case Squad, the Jasper and Newton county sheriffs’ departments, the police departments of Webb City and Carterville, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
