Webb City man pleads guilty in assault case

A Webb City man pleaded guilty Monday to assaulting another man a year ago with a wrench.

Cale B. Cooper, 43, changed his plea to guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court on a charge of second-degree assault in a plea deal with the prosecutor’s office. The deal would limit the prison time he might be assessed to no more than four years.

Circuit Judge Gayle Crane delayed formal action on the plea agreement and ordered the completion of a sentencing-assessment report. The judge set Cooper’s sentencing hearing for Oct. 15.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, Cooper hit Corey Dickson in the head and face three or four times with a wrench on Aug. 14, 2011, at an address on County Road 200. The victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
