Squabble between roommates leads to vehicular injury

JOPLIN, Mo. — A Joplin man arrested Monday afternoon for hitting his roommate with a vehicle during an argument over a dog has been released without a charge having been filed as yet.

Michael D. Roland, 26, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West following an incident about 1:10 p.m. Monday at 2323 S. Joplin Ave.

Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said Roland suffered back and neck pain and a cut to his neck after landing on the hood and breaking the windshield of a car driven by his roommate. The 40-year-old male roommate was taken into custody on suspicion of having struck Roland deliberately with the vehicle.

But the roommate was released from jail on Tuesday without any charge having been filed. Niess said investigators were weighing conflicting information as to whether Roland was struck by the vehicle and landed on the hood or if he jumped on the hood.
