Joplin resident Terry E. Triplett has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge in an alleged felony assault case involving his brother and another man.

Triplett, 51, and his brother, Todd E. Triplett, 49, were charged with first-degree assault for an alleged attack on Ira Jones on Aug. 7 of last year near the intersection of Langston Hughes-Broadway and High Street in Joplin. Jones was stabbed and cut with a knife during the altercation, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Terry Triplett pleaded guilty at a hearing Monday in Jasper County Circuit Court to a reduced charge of misdemeanor assault in a plea deal with the prosecutor’s office. Circuit Judge David Dally accepted the plea bargain and assessed Triplett one year in jail, with execution of the sentence suspended and the defendant placed on unsupervised probation for a year.

Todd Triplett, who remains charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action, has a hearing scheduled for July 27 in Jasper County Circuit Court.
