Arkansas woman arrested in robbery of convenience store

Police stopped a vehicle and took an Arkansas woman into custody on suspicion of robbery Tuesday night after a person wearing a Halloween mask held up a convenience store at 3347 S. Range Line Road.

Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said a person wearing a hooded sweatshirt and an “alien-style” mask entered the Fastrip store at 6:57 p.m., displayed a knife and told a clerk: “Give me all the money.”

Niess said the robber dropped some of the money taken from a cash register while going out the door, then got in a car and left. He said a Ford Taurus was stopped by officers minutes later near the Flying J truck stop on East 32nd Street. The female driver of the car was released without charges, but her 24-year-old passenger from Harrison, Ark., was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

A charge of first-degree robbery was being sought against the woman but had yet to be filed in Newton County Circuit Court by late Wednesday afternoon.
