Joplin police investigating strong-arm robbery

A Joplin man was injured at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in a strong-arm robbery on the parking lot of the Fastrip store at 403 N. Main St., police said.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said Edward Klieman, 18, attempted to sell an iPod to a woman in a vehicle while her male passenger was shopping inside the store.

Klieman, who had been skateboarding with friends near the store, told police that when the man returned to the vehicle, he asked to see the iPod. Klieman told police that when he gave the man the iPod, the woman attempted to drive away with it.

Klieman told police that he reached through the window to get his iPod, and that he was hanging half out of the vehicle as the driver drove away.

Niess said Klieman was shoved from the vehicle while it was moving. He suffered minor injuries.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday, Niess said.
