Vacant home burns in early morning fire

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin city fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire early today inside a vacant home at 2550 S. Iowa Ave.

Firefighters responded to a report of the fire at 5:34 a.m. and found the residence owned by Mary James heavily involved in smoke and flames. The fire was brought under control by 6:09 a.m. but crews did not clear the scene until shortly after 9 a.m., according to Keith Stammer, public information officer for the Joplin Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.
