NEOSHO, Mo. — Victory Estes testified Tuesday that she was getting in her vehicle to go to work on April 24 in the 3300 block of Sergeant Avenue in Joplin when Damien D. Doxley approached, threatened her with a knife and stole her car.
Estes’ testimony at a preliminary hearing in Newton County Circuit Court was instrumental in getting Doxley, 35, of Jefferson City, bound over for trial on charges of first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and tampering with a motor vehicle.
Associate Circuit Judge Gregory Stremel set the defendant’s initial appearance in a trial division of the court for July 12.
The Joplin woman did not know the man who stole her car. Her Ford Taurus was stopped by police on Interstate 44 minutes after the robbery, and Doxley was arrested. Although Estes reportedly was grabbed and shoved by the suspect, she escaped serious injury.
