Washburn man dies in wake of accident; wife seriously injured

— A Washburn man was killed and his wife was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident at 2:20 p.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 76, a half-mile north of Ridgeley in Barry County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

John V. Rose, 76, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Cassville and then was flown by medical helicopter to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, where he was pronounced dead at 5:28 p.m., the state patrol said. His wife, Bettie L. Rose, 74, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cassville.

Bettie Rose was driving the southbound van, which ran off the road and struck a ditch and a fence when she fell asleep, the patrol said.

• A resident of El Dorado Springs was injured in a motorcycle accident at 5:35 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 54, five miles west of El Dorado Springs in Vernon County, the state patrol said.

Bruce A. Deragowski, 54, was taken to Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs, the patrol said.

He was riding a westbound motorcycle that struck a deer in the roadway, the patrol said.

• A Sarcoxie man was injured in a motorcycle accident at 8 p.m. Monday on Apple Road, two miles west of Sarcoxie in Jasper County, the state patrol said.

Ross E. Wade, 29, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

He was riding a motorcycle that overturned and skidded off the road, the patrol said.
