A man who ran from Joplin police officers Saturday morning had still not been found late in the afternoon, according to a release from Cpl. Larry Swinehart.
Police were called just before 9 a.m. to Perkins Street and North McCoy Avenue in north Joplin to a report of a suspicious vehicle. They found the vehicle, a red 1989 Ford pickup truck, in a wooded area northwest of the intersection. Police thought the truck to have been reported stolen in Vernon County on March 9, according to the release.
A man then returned to the truck and tried to leave in it, but when he spotted a police officer, he left the truck and ran, the release said.
Police, including members of the department’s SWAT team and K-9 unit, searched the area but did not find the man. He was said to be wearing dark clothing, and police said it had been reported to them that he was armed and dangerous, according to the release.
