Joplin man faces assault charge

A Joplin man has been charged with felony domestic assault in connection with a disturbance Thursday afternoon in the 1700 block of South Grand Avenue.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said Alanna D. Wright-Robertson, 19, told police that the father of her child attacked her as she was walking down the street, allegedly placing her in a headlock and picking her up off the ground prior to choking her. Her assailant reportedly ran when neighbors came to her defense, Niess said.

Curtis P. Kimbrough, 21, 1718 S. Connor Ave., was arrested a short time later. He was charged with second-degree domestic assault.

• In a separate assault case Thursday morning at 2914 E. 32nd St., a 29-year-old woman suffered a minor cut with a knife wielded by a male acquaintance who came to her place of employment to talk with her. Niess said the man allegedly pressed a knife to the woman’s side, cutting her. She was able to get away from him with the assistance of a co-worker, Niess said.

The man had run off by the time police arrived and had yet to be located by Friday.
