PITTSBURG, Kan. — Cara M. Lloyd, Pittsburg, Kan., was bound over this morning following a prelimary hearing on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of her 13-month-old son, Cory Jones, Jr.

Lloyd is accused of strangling the child on Oct. 29, 2011, using straps from the car seat. The child was in the car seat at the time, during a gathering at house in Frontenac, according to testimony.

Frontenac police were called to 104 N. Labette St. the day in question concerning an unresponsive child. Officers started cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts while waiting for emergency medical technicians to arrive.

The child was taken to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, where he was pronounced dead.

Lloyd is being held in the Crawford County jail on $500,000 bond.
