Woman’s death ruled suicide case

The Jasper County coroner has ruled the death of a 43-year-old Joplin woman discovered Thursday night a case of suicide by hanging.

Joplin police said Shawna L. Chapman was found dead in the garage of her home on South Porter Avenue by a friend. She is believed to have died sometime between midnight Wednesday and 7 p.m. Thursday.

Coroner Rob Chappel said that he was ruling the death a suicide. Arrangements are pending with Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
