QUAPAW, Okla. —
A 24-year-old Miami man is being held without bond in the murder of his former girlfriend, whose body was discovered Thursday afternoon lying on a road in Ottawa County.
A passer-by spotted the body of Danyel Borden, 21, about 2 p.m. Thursday on County Road 610 at East 20 in the Hockerville area of Ottawa County.
The California woman’s ex-boyfriend, Dustin E. Boggs, was arrested about 4 a.m. Friday at a home in Miami in connection with her death. Boggs was booked into the Ottawa County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, although the charge had yet to be formally filed by Friday night.
A worker in the Ottawa County district attorney’s office said a probable-cause affidavit has been signed by a judge but would not become public record until a charge is filed on Monday and the defendant makes an initial appearance in court. In the meantime, Boggs remained in custody without any bond amount set.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, which is assisting the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department and Miami and Quapaw police in the investigation, said in a news release that Borden’s body showed obvious signs of trauma. The news release did not state what those signs were. The cause of death, according to the statement, would be determined by an autopsy being conducted by the state medical examiner’s office.
OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown said she did not know where in California the murdered woman lived or what she was doing in the Quapaw area. She also did not have any details about the relationship of Borden and Boggs, and said she would not be able to release such information if she did.
Hyundai Accent
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that investigators were still looking for a white 2010 Hyundai Accent that was involved in the woman’s murder. The sheriff’s office said the car is believed to have a broken back window. Anyone with information about the vehicle’s location is being asked to call the sheriff’s office at 918-542-2806.
