Man being held without bond in shooting case

DENNIS, Kan. — A 28-year-old man was shot multiple times during an argument with another man early Wednesday at a home in Dennis, authorities said.

According to the Labette County Sheriff’s Department, William J. Scott was taken to Labette Health, a hospital in Parsons, with multiple gunshot wounds after a shooting about 12:10 a.m. at 211 Main St. in Dennis.

The sheriff’s office said William D.L. Beachner, 26, is accused of shooting Scott with a small-caliber handgun and fleeing the residence. The sheriff’s office contacted Beachner by phone, and he returned to the address and was arrested.

Beachner was being held without bond at the jail in Oswego on Wednesday, pending a review of the matter by the county attorney’s office.
