Firefighters snuff basement blaze

A fire Tuesday night inside a house in the 2400 block of South Grand Avenue was confined to the basement.

Firefighters were called at 7:55 p.m., and found a small fire in the basement of the single-story house and put it out. Basement windows were opened to clear the residence of smoke. No injuries were reported.

Keith Stammer, public information officer for the Joplin Fire Department, said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
