Cara M. Lloyd sentenced to 61 months in prison for death of her son

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Cara M. Lloyd, 29, was sentenced to 61 months in prison for voluntary manslaughter in the death of her son, Cory Jones, Jr.

Lloyd was sentenced by District Judge A.J. Wachter in Crawford County District Court.

The child was 13 months old when he was strangled with the straps of his child safety seat on Oct. 29, 2011, at the home of a friend of his mother’s in Frontenac.

The judge gave Lloyd credit for 320 days served in jail plus credit for good behavior during that period of incarceration and ordered that she serve 36 months of supervised probation following her release from prison. Lloyd initially was charged with first-degree murder in the case but pleaded no contest in October to the reduced count in a plea deal with the Crawford County attorney’s office.
