PITTSBURG, Kan. —
A Pittsburg teen has been charged in an armed robbery Sunday night at the Pitt Stop Convenience Store, 902 S. Joplin Ave., police said.
Juan M. Medina, 18, is charged with aggravated robbery, felony obstruction, and felony eluding and fleeing. He was being held without bond at the Crawford County Jail in Girard.
The store’s clerk, who was not injured, reported that two men entered the store and demanded money about 8:20 p.m. Sunday. One of the men displayed a double-barreled shotgun. The two left with an undisclosed amount of money.
The two were described as being about 20 years of age. They were wearing dark jackets with hoods pulled over their heads.
After the robbery, police received a tip about a suspicious maroon-colored passenger car in the area. An officer located a car matching the description of the vehicle and attempted to stop it. A pursuit ensued.
Police said the vehicle stopped in the 1000 block of East 14th Street, where four to five people jumped out of the car and ran off in different directions. One of the people was located and arrested.
Police took into evidence two firearms found in the vehicle.
Maj. Melanie Schaper, with Pittsburg police, said the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the robbery is being asked by police to report it to the department at 620-231-1700. Callers may remain anonymous.
