A 40-year-old man is being held on a robbery charge after allegedly leaving a store in Joplin without paying for two cases of beer and pulling a knife on a clerk who tried to stop him.
Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said the theft of the beer took place about 10:35 p.m. Thursday at Discount Smokes & Liquor, 1817 S. Main St.
Niess said police were called as the clerk followed the man out of the store, and he was arrested about a block away from the business. Paul A. Seibel, 40, who has been living at a Joplin shelter for the homeless, was charged with second-degree robbery.
No injuries were reported, Niess said.
