Joplin man’s death ruled suicide case



Joplin police have identified a man who shot himself Thursday night as Joel A. Lopez, 22, of Joplin.

Cpl. Chuck Niess said Lopez shot himself with a handgun on the front porch of his home at 1129 S. Geneva Ave. in an apparent suicide.

Police and emergency medical technicians called to the address at 7:12 p.m. discovered Lopez outside the house with a gunshot wound to his head.

He was taken to Freeman Hospital West, where he was pronounced dead.
