COLUMBUS, Kan. — The Cherokee County sheriff’s office said several weekend arrests are linked with several burglaries in the area.
Skylar Duncan, 26, of Rose, Okla., and Brittani Rufino, 20, of Springfield, Ark., were arrested after a search of their vehicle led to the discovery of property stolen in Labette County and Wilson County, authorities said. Duncan was charged with fleeing law enforcement, possession of stolen property, and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Rufino was charged with possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff’s deputies also arrested two Pittsburg residents Saturday during a burglary of a rural Cherokee County home. A search warrant was executed on a vehicle found nearby, and additional stolen property was discovered along with suspected burglary tools, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
The two, a 34-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were being held in the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of burglary, theft and criminal damage to property.
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate a number of burglaries in rural parts of the county, and officials believe additional suspects are involved. Officials are asking residents to notify law enforcement of any suspicious activity.
A private reward of $7,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Information may be given to the sheriff’s office at 620-429-3992.
